When the Gujarat Titans played Sanju Samson and company in Ahmedabad on April 10, Jos Buttler talked candidly about his sentiments about playing against his old team, the Rahasthan Royals, for the first time. The standout athlete said that being on the opposing side of the Royals felt “bit strange” to him. He did, however, add that he was more anxious to defeat the Royals. Buttler said he has liked his new assignment with the Titans and thought his squad played a great game.
Being on the opposing team against the Rajasthan Royals did feel a little odd. However, I must admit that my desire for the victory today was even greater. It was a great team effort, in my opinion. After his team’s 58-run victory, Jos Buttler told JioHotstar, “I’m really enjoying the new challenge.”
Before joining the Royals in 2018, the English batter was a member of the Mumbai Indians in 2016 and 2017. The wicketkeeper batsman for MI amassed 527 runs at a strike rate of 145.98 and a batting average of 25.10 over 24 innings.
But from 2018 to 2024, his IPL legacy took a different turn with RR, where he amassed 3055 runs in 82 innings with a strike rate of 147.80 and an average of 41.85, including seven hundreds and 18 scores of fifty or more. In 2022, when the Royals became runner-up after losing to Buttler’s current team in the final, the T20 World Cup-winning captain also took home the Orange Cap and Player of the Tournament honours.

Buttler responded that he has been batting at the position for England and does not feel strange in his current role as a No. 3 batter for GT. He added that having two skilled hitters ahead of him, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, is beneficial. “Openers help me by playing the tough early phase in the Powerplay overs,” Jos Buttler said in closing.
“It’s not new to me because I’ve been batting at No. 3 for England lately. The fact that I’m following two outstanding openers who typically provide a solid foundation helps. “It’s nice that they deal with any swing and get to walk in when the ball stops moving,” Jos Buttler continued.
