Following Eoin Morgan’s resignation from white-ball cricket, Jos Buttler was appointed England’s captain. The talented wicketkeeper-batter helped England win the T20 World Cup for the second time last year. Despite expectations that Buttler would lead England far into the 2023 ODI World Cup, the reigning champions have fallen short of expectations.
In the current 50-over World Cup, England has only managed to win two matches and lose six, and they were eliminated a long time ago. With one game remaining, they defeated the Netherlands by 160 runs on Wednesday, November 8, snapping a five-match losing streak. This lifted them out of the bottom half of the points table and into seventh place.
Jos Buttler who has only amassed 111 runs at a pitiful average of 13.88 in eight games, expressed his unhappiness with his poor form after the much-needed victory over the Dutch squad. However, he stated that he would like to continue captaining the English team in white-ball cricket.
It is noteworthy that England will be embarking on a Caribbean tour following the World Cup. Rob Key, England’s managing director of men’s cricket, met the team again in Kolkata ahead of Jos Buttler and company’s final World Cup match against Pakistan on Saturday, November 11. Key was with the team earlier in the tournament.
Before selecting the squad to play the West Indies, Key will confer with Jos Buttlerr and head coach Matthew Mott.

England’s overwhelming victory over the Netherlands gives them a strong possibility of attending the event. Jos Buttlerr praised his players for sticking together during this trying time and stated that their current goal is to qualify for the Champions Trophy.
