England became the first nation to ever win the 50-over World Cup under the inspiring leadership of Eoin Morgan. After the West Indies and Australia failed to defend the coveted crown, England will be led into the World Cup four years later by Jos Buttler.
Jos Buttler said that he dislikes the term “defending champions” after his team defeated New Zealand 3-1 in a recent ODI series at home. He believes his team is beginning from scratch, just like the other teams competing in the event.
“We’re not making any defenses. We intend to travel there and take the World Cup. After the series victory over the Kiwis, the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter declared, “We’re in exactly the same position as every other team.” On the eve of England’s inaugural match against the Blackcaps, he reaffirmed the same.
“The past is in the past for me. Something cannot be recreated or preserved indefinitely. The focus is on something novel. I won’t say we’ve completely forgotten what it’s like to be champions and the current champions because it’s a great position to be, but it’s terrific. However, I believe that you have since returned the trophy. That’s it. It involves attempting to produce something novel. Before the opening ODI World Cup 2023 encounter against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5, Jos Buttler was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
“We must be motivated to attempt it again and to shift our attention to something else. Things from the past can serve as useful points of reference: you talk about experience, but as a young player, I never trusted it. I believed that you could either succeed or fail.
Jos Buttler continued, “But there are times when things happen and it’s great to look back on them now that I’m an older player.
Even if England is one of the favorites to win the championship game, Buttler wants to concentrate on each game as it happens.
