We're an ageing group, though I wouldn't call it "Dad's Army," Jos Buttler said.

Jos Buttler discusses England's World Cup roster selection: "We've tried to be a really loyal team."

The 2023 ODI World Cup is only a few years away. The main tournament is scheduled to start on October 5 in Ahmedabad with the defending champions England taking against New Zealand. The England team would be eager to try to defend their championship as the event draws near. ODI captain Jos Buttler grabbed front stage as the preparations continued and expressed his opinion that several seasoned players might still be recruited to England’s squad for their forthcoming ODI series against England since the team wants to give the players every opportunity to find their form before the World Cup.

Speaking after England’s recent victory over New Zealand, Jos Buttler discussed the team’s growing experience and emphasised the value of allowing the more seasoned players the chance to perform.

Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss started the “we’ve tried to be a really loyal team and selection panel throughout” mantra. It sends the incorrect message to push players to play aggressively and then kick them out as soon as things go wrong. There will be setbacks along the way because we’re encouraging individuals to take chances, Jos Buttler was quoted as saying by criketmood.

We’re an ageing bunch, though I wouldn’t describe it as “Dad’s Army,” he continued. We have a lot of experience playing in this format, so it won’t take as long for us to feel totally at home playing 50-over cricket, he continued.

Buttler also discussed potential last-minute changes to the England World Cup roster. The great batter stated that he is being open-minded about the changes to the squad.

“Yes, definitely [the thinking about the squad] alters now that we’ve played a series and the series has had a chance to wind down. We can just gather some information on that and then finalise the team, but obviously we’ve had some injury niggles around a few individuals,” Jos Buttler added.
