Jonny Bairstow leads PBKS to the most successful IPL and T20 run chase in history in KKR vs. PBKS; Twitter responds

Unbeknownst to KKR, the PBKS were prepared to take a risk. As they put together a 93-run partnership for the first wicket, Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow were playing brilliantly. Rilee Rossouw did well with his 26 off 16, while Prabhsimran left for 54 off 20. With his undefeated 68 off 28, Shashank Singh unleashed mayhem. Remember that Bairstow’s undefeated 108 off 48 allowed for the record chase.

At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, the Punjab Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets. Having won the toss, PBKS chose to go to the field first. The Knight Riders got off to an explosive start thanks to a 138-run partnership between Phil Salt and Sunil Narine for the first wicket. Their respective scores were 75 and 71. KKR set a challenging goal of 261 runs on board, thanks to smart cameos from Andre Russell and Shreyas Iyer.

Punjab’s 262-run chase has destroyed all T20 format records. Thanks to Bairstow’s timely century, PBKS has broken both the most successful T20 run chase and the most successful IPL run chase in cricket history.

Prabhsimran Singh opened the PBKS innings with a spectacular six. He was prepared for the attack and expected a more comprehensive delivery from Harshit Rana. He flicked one off his legs, sending the ball sailing for a six over deep-square leg.

2. Arshdeep Singh displays steely nerves in the face of death

Before being introduced to bowl the 19th over of the innings, Arshdeep Singh had already conceded a significant number of runs. With a solid foundation, Andre Russell was ready to take on any challenge that came his way. With his limited expertise, Arshdeep released a short delivery that decelerated the tempo. Russell gave the catch to Harshal Patel while he was hunting for a big one.

3. After taking Anukul Roy to the dry cleaners, Jonny Bairstow

When Jonny Bairstow bowled the last over of the powerplay, he had no intention of sparing the young player. Bairstow hit three boundaries and two maximums in the six balls he faced while facing the five deliveries of the spinners. He gave PBKS a powerful last over by facing 24 runs in the space of only five deliveries.
