Jonny Bairstow has been named Yorkshire’s Division One County Championship captain. Next week, the tournament will begin, giving Bairstow an opportunity to show off and earn a spot back in England’s red-ball team. The player was cut from the English squad and went unsold in the IPL.
Jonny Bairstow is carrying on the family tradition of his late father, who captained Yorkshire from 1984 to 1988.
He last played for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals, where they were defeated by India. The player hasn’t played international cricket in a very long time. Being given the opportunity to captain the team made the athlete very happy.
“Being named Yorkshire’s captain fills me with immense pride. I have a deep affection for the county, and I am really proud to play for the team. I’m thrilled and eager to see what the season brings. We have a fantastic group of guys that have been putting in a lot of effort over time. “After a very difficult couple of years for the club, it was fantastic for us to get promoted last year,” Jonny Bairstow remarked, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
Yorkshire will be led by Dawid Malan in the T20 Blast.
Yorkshire has selected the seasoned Dawid Malan as their skipper for the T20 Blast. The athlete has thanked the coaches and cricket director for supporting him and encouraging him to take on new challenges.
“With Yorkshire CCC’s rich heritage, being named captain in any format of cricket is both a thrilling and a proud event. In addition to me, we have a full new leadership team behind me, including the director of cricket and coaches. According to ESPNCricinfo, Malan stated, “It’s a really exciting time for the club and hopefully, you know, we can put some things in place that put white-ball cricket in a good place at Yorkshire.”
