At the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, England won for the first time, and Katie Jones was thrilled to give a masterclass in goalkeeping.
In their match against Pakistan in Johor, Jones contributed to a runout, three stumpings, and a catch as England held their opponents to 66.
After Pakistan fought back with the ball, the 19-year-old was crucial in the run chase, hitting the winning six and scoring 20 off 16 balls.
Katie Jones remarked, “I was really happy with my performance.
” Naturally, the batter must give you the chance, but there is a lot of pressure to follow through on the outcome, which I was fortunate to do this time, so I was quite pleased with that.
It’s always a privilege to be given the chance to keep, and for me, it’s all about enjoying it, which is when I perform at my best.
As a keeper, “annoying” is certainly a suitable term to describe me! Unfortunately, I am that bothersome keeper.
However, I believe that you simply set the tone as the keeper. We are frequently called the band’s drummer, and I believe that’s what I strive to do—get the energy up, put pressure on the batters, and let them know when they need to score runs!
“I will simply continue doing what I did today and see where it leads.”
After England’s first game against Ireland was called off due to weather, Jones was one of four changes made to the starting lineup.
In lieu of regular keeper Jemima Spence, who was suffering from a niggle, she got the gloves from Charlotte Stubbs, who kept against Ireland.
Despite a Player of the Match performance, Jones is aware that she is still unsure of her spot in the squad because England has a tendency to rotate their squad, which dates back to the 2023 World Cup, where they placed second.
She has, however, been well-prepared for England’s upcoming match against the USA, which will determine who wins Group B, thanks to her impressive bat and glove performance.
After a convincing victory over Ireland, who, like Pakistan, are still looking for their first victory, the USA are now leading the world in net run rate.
Jones went on to say: “It is fantastic to have our first team victory, and I believe it shows how good we can be when we set our minds to it and how fearless we can play cricket.”
It’s incredibly good to see that our team’s hard work over the winter has culminated in success.
“I believe it’s extremely exciting because we still don’t know what our best XI is, so I anticipate more changes to give everyone a chance to show off their skills.
