Jonathan Trott, the head coach of Afghanistan, is certain that his team would “bring joy and happiness” to their supporters during the ODI World Cup in the wake of a horrific earthquake that left over 2000 dead and thousands injured.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Afghanistan was observed wearing black armbands in remembrance of the earthquake victims during their eight-wicket loss to India. Rashid Khan, a well-known Afghan all-rounder, has already said that he will contribute all of his World Cup match costs “to help the affected people,” and his foundation has already raised more than £30,000 for an urgent appeal.

After hearing about the accident, the team, according to Jonathan Trott, held a meeting, and several of the players gave their match fees to those in need. He continued by saying that even though none of the players’ families had experienced a direct impact, their hearts went out to those who were.

“The moment the players heard about the incident, they demanded to know what they could do. A team meeting was held, and many of the players gave money from their match fees.

“I hope that every penny goes to organizations that can save lives and aid in their recovery. The athletes have been excellent. “Family-wise, no one has been directly impacted, but I’m sure their thoughts are with their fellow citizens,” Trott was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Jonathan Trott continued by saying that the players would perform admirably to achieve their goal of making their nation proud of them.

For the second time in his coaching career, Jonathan Trott will compete against the country he represented 52 times in Test cricket and 75 times in limited-overs matches.

“The players are aware that the nation would be happy and joyful as a result of their exploits here. They want to make their nation proud of them. There are still seven games left in this World Cup, which provides the opportunity to provide strong performances and inspire pride among Afghans. There is no additional drive. It’s just a different team that maybe we can defeat,” he continued.
