After three years with the team, Jon Lewis has resigned as head coach of the UP Warriorz before of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. On Friday, June 27, the Warriorz made the announcement on social media.
“You had faith in us from the beginning. Through the learnings, the highs, and all points in between. Coach Jon Lewis, I appreciate your heartfelt, composed, and believing leadership. As stated in the UP Warriorz Instagram post, “You will always be a part of the Warriorz Family.”

In 2023, Jon Lewis joined the UP Warriorz for the inaugural WPL season, leading the team to the playoffs.
But in the elimination round, they lost to the eventual winners, the Mumbai Indians. The UP squad finished fourth in 2024 with only three victories in eight games, and with the same win-loss record in 2025, they were at the bottom of the standings.
Even though they had a good team, their campaigns were hampered by injuries and subpar play. Notably, Deepti Sharma was selected as the stand-in captain in 2025 as captain Alyssa Healy missed the season due to injury. As head coach of the England Women’s national team, a role he assumed in November 2022, Jon Lewis was also sharing duties. Jon Lewis left his position as England’s captain in March 2025 following the country’s disappointing 16-0 loss to Australia in the Women’s Ashes and their elimination from the 2024 T20 World Cup group stage.
Georgia Voll’s undefeated 99 helped UP Warriorz set the WPL record for the highest team total under his reign, which was 225/5 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this year. Prior to WPL 2026, the team will be looking for a new coach once Lewis leaves.
