In a startling development, former Indian player Joginder Sharma has been charged with helping Pawan, a resident of Hisar, commit suicide.
A case against Sharma and five other people has been filed by the Haryana Police. On January 2, Pawan’s mother, Sunita, filed a complaint, claiming that her son had hanged himself on January 1 due to a property dispute.
According to Sunita, her son’s case was still undergoing trial. In case you don’t know, Joginder Sharma is the Deputy Superintendent of Police for Haryana. After his heroics during India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning campaign, he became a household name. The right-arm bowler helped his team win the championship by bowling the final over in the India vs. Pakistan match.
On Thursday, January 4, Pawan’s family declined to take possession of the deceased, who was 27 years old. They demonstrated in front of the Hisar CMO office. The family demands the accused’s immediate arrest and a case under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act).
Ajayveer, Ishwar Jhajharia, Prem Khati, Arjun, and hockey coach Rajendra Sihag were the other five accused in addition to Sharma.
An FIR was filed against each of the six suspects under IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide) as soon as the case was registered. According to Sunita’s claims in the FIR, the case as well as the relentless pressure from the accused were to blame for her son’s drastic action. Ajayveer and Arjun allegedly requested Pawan leave his home last week, according to the lawsuit. Sunita added that the defendant had been pestering her family for a long time.

Joginder Sharma refuted the claims, claiming that he never met Pawan and that he didn’t know him. Sharma retired from all forms of cricket in February 2023.
