On Day 2 of the second Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India, Jofra Archer got off to a spectacular start in his Test comeback after more than four years, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal on the third ball of his opening over. After scoring 13 runs off of eight balls, Jaiswal had to make the trek back to the shed.
The left-handed hitter appeared oblivious to the 143 kph (89 mph) delivery, which was executed at the ideal length and squared him up entirely. Harry Brook finished the remainder of the work at second slip. With the dismissal, Jofra Archer was naturally overjoyed and headed to square leg to celebrate and take in the occasion. To commemorate his maiden wicket in a Test comeback, the Lord’s audience stood up.

The first wicket taken by the visitors was Jaiswal. Against England, it was one of his rare defeats. But Jofra Archer was the main focus of that time. Due to recurrent elbow and back ailments that have previously limited him to a white-ball diet, he has not been a member of the red-ball unit.
Jofra Archer last outing in the format was against India in February 2021.
However, his experience with the bat was not particularly noteworthy. Arriving at No. 10, he was struck by a jagged back-in delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, which caused him to smash into the stumps. Bumrah’s fifth of the innings came from Archer. In 112.3 overs, the team captained by Ben Stokes was bowled out for 387. Joe Root led the hosts in scoring with 104 off 199. His eleventh century in Test matches against India was this one.
Crucial half-centuries were scored by Jamie Smith (51 off 56) and Brydon Carse (56 off 83). One of the primary reasons England reached a respectable total in their first innings and was bundled out with 387 runs on the board was their 84-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Jaiswal’s opening partner KL Rahul (53*) was the Indian team’s standout player over the remainder of the second day’s innings. At the time of Stumps, his undefeated half-century had propelled India to more over 150. Alongside vice-captain Rishabh Pant (19*), he will continue the innings and advance the score from 145-3.
