Joe Root will be the glue that holds England together this summer: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan, who used to be the captain of England, was very happy for Joe Root after he hit a century on Day 1 of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Joe Root hit an unbeaten 118 runs off 152 balls, with seven fours and four sixes. The captain, Ben Stokes, called the game 393/8 on Day 1 (June 16).

Vaughan said that when Joe Root is playing, England looks easy on the pitch. He used Root’s six against Australia‘s Scott Boland as an example. The 48-year-old added that the top-order hitter plays a very exciting style of cricket with the support of his team.

“He makes it look so easy when he plays. He makes it look so easy to scoop Scott Boland at 95 mph for a six. That’s probably one of the silliest shots, and if we tried to play it, the ball would just go up in the air. “He plays an exciting style of cricket, and the team lets him do that,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

I liked that he played like Joe Root during his innings. Vaughan went on to say that he liked his innings because he played in his own way. The 48-year-old said that his running between the wickets with wicketkeeper/batsman Jonny Bairstow was great. He also said that Root will be the glue that holds English cricket together this summer if he can be reliable.

“I liked that he played like Joe Root during his innings. Because he’s always busy, it’s hard to set fields for him.

Bairstow did a great job of getting between the wickets. “Joe Root will be England’s anchor and glue in the summer if he can be consistent, which he will be at number four,” the former England captain said.

During Australia’s innings, opener Usman Khawaja hit a century (141 runs off 321 balls) before the hosts bowled them out for 386. In addition to Khawaja, Pat Cummins’ team also benefited from the contributions of Travis Head and Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper who bats. They scored 50 and 66 runs, respectively.
