When former Australian opener David Warner made a contentious comment about great English batsman Joe Root, the teasing for the forthcoming Ashes 2025–26 was well underway. Warner said that when Australia’s top pacer Josh Hazlewood marks his run-up against Joe Root, he won’t have the best of times playing down under and would definitely feel the heat.
David Warner’s comments a few days ago regarding Josh Hazlewood as a possible threat to Joe Root and the likelihood that Joe Root would have it on his mind have been addressed by Joe Root. In Australia, Root has not yet scored a Test century. Warner’s remarks were dismissed by the former English Test captain as pre-series teasing.
“How people see the game or speak in interviews is beyond my control. Storylines and attempts to build excitement for a major series are inevitable. makes no meaningful difference. My biggest takeaway is that I wanted it much too much the last two times.
“It distracted me from the important things,” said Joe Root, as cited by BBC Sport.
Having completed about 150 tests, I feel like I’m more than prepared for it: Joe Root Root also thought that he had what it took to face the Aussies and appeared capable of handling the pressure of yet another away Ashes series. Root has yet to achieve a century in the 14 Test matches he has played for England against Australia. With a maximum score of 89 and an average of 35.68, he has amassed 892 runs in 27 innings.
“Obviously, there have been a lot of distractions and other things to deal with during the last few visits there. I just want to go this time and take in the trip as it is. It’s a lovely nation with excellent cricketing conditions. Everything you would want and expect from an away Ashes series will be present in this tough match. That is something you must enjoy. I feel like I couldn’t be more prepared going there, having played about 150 Test matches,” he continued.
The opening Test of the five-match series will start at Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 21, marking the start of the Ashes. As usual, the Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the Boxing Day Test, and the Sydney Cricket Ground will host the series’ final Pink Test of the year.
