19 July 2024, National: Joe Root, one of England’s greatest batters ever, was announced on Friday by the Royals Sports Group-owned Paarl Royals as a new player for the 2025 SA20 season. After playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2023 Indian Premier League, the 33-year-old veteran will be joining the Royals for the 2025 SA20 season. He will be representing his second Royals team.
Currently playing at Trent Bridge in England’s second Test match against the West Indies is the elegant batter. The legendary English player will boost the Boland Park-based team’s roster, and his wealth of knowledge should benefit other younger South African players as well.
Director of Cricket for the Royals Kumar Sangakkara responded to the deal by saying, “We all know what a phenomenal player Joe Root is, and to have him back at the Royals is a great feeling.
” With his bowling and fielding skills, he has proven to be a valuable all-round player and has been an excellent contributor to every team he has played for over the years. As demonstrated both during the 2023 Indian Premier League and over time, he is an excellent team player who can assist his colleagues in growing both on and off the pitch. His knowledge, charm, intelligence, and on-field accomplishments will all be put to good use as we work to make the 2025 SA20 season a great one.”
In more than 100 T20 matches played in his career, Root has 2432 runs scored and 51 catches taken. He has taken 27 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47 with the ball, and he is also known to chip in.
Following the previous two popular shows, the third season of SA20 is scheduled to premiere on January 9, 2025, and run through February 8.
