PAK vs ENG 2024: DRS failure leaves Ben Stokes, Joe Root baffled as caught behind appeal fails flat during 2nd Test

On the third day of the second Test match between England and Pakistan at Multan, a strange incident occurred during Pakistan’s second batting innings. With Salman Agha and Sajid Khan at the crease, Pakistan was positioned at 218/8 and attempting to add any important runs that came their way to make the fourth innings as difficult for England to chase. A peach of a delivery outside off that held its line after pitching completely destroyed Sajid, who was batting on 20, with the sixth delivery of the 57th over.

Brydon Carse and the other wicketkeepers did not hold back, but wicketkeeper Jamie Smith did not exactly appeal. Don’t forget that this was the first over following the drinks break, when there was news that the Decision Review System would be unavailable for a while due to technical issues. Unfortunately for them, the technology was down at the time, but the English were quite certain that the delivery had an outside advantage.

Actually, the TV replays continued to mention that there was a sound made as the ball passed the bat.

To the chagrin of captain Ben Stokes and former captain Joe Root, England was unfortunate to be unable to challenge for a spot upstairs owing to the absence of Hawk-Eye equipment.

Following the dominance of the spinners, the match is evenly poised.

Sixteen wickets were lost on the third day of the Test match. The spinners from both sides took the remaining wickets, with pacers taking only three. First, Sajid Khan took three of England’s final four wickets during the morning session. Then, in their second innings, Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir defeated Pakistan for 221 thanks to their seven-wicket partnership.

England would have preferred to end the day without suffering any injuries. However, Root and Harry Brook put out the fire by remaining together until Stumps was called, while Sajid and Noman Ali quickly eliminated the English openers. Even though there are a few days left in the bank, chasing down 261 runs is not going to be easy.
