Joe Root, the star hitter for England, is getting closer to the renowned mark held by Sachin Tendulkar, a former Indian cricket player. Tendulkar’s record for most Test runs is 3,544 runs ahead of Root. Tendulkar concluded his career with an incredible 15,921 runs after 200 Tests, while Root has amassed 12,377 runs in the longest format after 145 Tests.
Since Root is just 33 years old, he still has a few years left in his career to attempt to surpass Tendulkar’s record. The star batsman for England is now in unbelievable form. He is hitting hundreds of runs at will, and his two centuries against Sri Lanka have put Tendulkar’s record in jeopardy.
In relation to this, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan expressed confidence that Root will surpass Tendulkar’s record and expressed concern that the BCCI would not support an Indian player topping the Test run-getters chart.
“I estimate that he trails by about 3.5 thousand runs. He’s had three years or more. He is the game’s most ardent fan, unless his back breaks. I don’t believe he will escape. Now that he is not the captain, he is more adept at his position than ever. If he doesn’t, I’ll be shocked. The Hindustan Times cited Vaughan as stating, “He has played beautifully.”
“I believe he will continue, even if he does continue. The greatest thing to happen to cricket in history will be if Joe surpasses Sachin, as the BCCI would never like an English player to be ranked #1. It will take a long time for someone to get beyond an Indian at the top, so that will guarantee Test match cricket, he continued.

There aren’t many batters in today’s cricket league who can match Joe Root’s record or Tendulkar’s. Ace batsman Virat Kohli is one name that springs to mind. But with 8848 runs scored in 113 Test matches, Kohli lags considerably behind players like Tendulkar and Root.
