Marizanne Kapp, an all-rounder from South Africa, commended Jemimah Rodrigues’ leadership abilities before to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) tournament. In WPL 2026, Kapp will play for Rodrigues as captain. Meg Lanning, who will captain the UP Warriorz, has been replaced by the Indian batter as captain of the Delhi Capitals.
Despite having captained Mumbai at the state level, Rodrigues has not assumed a leadership position in the WPL or on the global stage.
Kapp discussed some of the traits that could make Jemimah a good captain in a recent interview.
“I really stated a few years ago that Jemimah ought to be the captain of India going forward. She has always taken the lead. Her disposition, her ability to unite others, and her compassion are all important. Even seasoned captains have difficulties. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Kapp stated, “I think Jemimah will take advantage of this opportunity with both hands because she has a lot of senior players around her.”
It’s evident that losing Meg as captain is significant: Kapp
Additionally, Kapp acknowledged that the Capitals suffered a significant blow in losing Lanning as captain. In each of the three WPL seasons, Lanning led the Capitals to the top of the standings and helped them place second. She is third among the top run scorers in WPL history with five World Cup victories as captain.
“It’s clear that losing Meg as a captain is significant. Not just for DC, but for all of international cricket, she is a very successful captain,” Kapp continued.
Returning to Jemimah, last year’s Women’s ODI World Cup campaign was a wild ride for the right-handed batsman. She was dropped after getting sent off for ducks against South Africa and Sri Lanka. She did, however, recover well and made a stunning century against Australia in the semi-final. With an average of an incredible 58.40 in the main event, Jemimah ended as India’s third-highest run scorer, after openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal.
