Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has disclosed that during her pivotal innings at the Women’s World Cup, where she led India to the final with an undefeated 127 against Australia, she could still hear former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s remarks about his game-winning knock against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup in Melbourne.
Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (89) put up a 167-run stand for the third wicket as India successfully raced down 339, marking the most successful run chase in women’s ODI history. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Kohli had previously led India to win over bitter rivals Pakistan with an undefeated 83 off 53 balls. While chasing 160, India was at one point 31/4, but the veteran maintained composure and helped his team win the match.
“Jemimah discussed this with Virat Kohli once.
I questioned him about that knock in Melbourne. “You know, this knock is something else,” I added. The knock was wild. What were you thinking about? What even caused such a knock? “You know Jemimah, even if I want to take credit for that knock, I can’t,” he said to me. I can’t duplicate that knock if you ask me to. In an interview with Breakfast With Champions, Rodrigues stated, “I was just thankful that God picked me at that precise moment to be the person to take India through.”
And I just recalled his words when the World Cup semifinal took place. since I didn’t alter my practice in any way. I was equally prepared. You are simply selected for that particular moment, even though everything else was the same. Then things just happen. I believe it was one instance in which I was unable to claim credit,” she continued.
Rodrigues will now captain the Delhi Capitals Women in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Her debut game is scheduled for January 10 in Navi Mumbai against the Mumbai Indians Women. Despite making it to the WPL final three times, the Delhi Capitals Women have never been able to raise the trophy.
