England’s spin-bowling coach, Jeetan Patel, is hoping that Moeen Ali will be ready to play in the third Ashes Test, which is set to start on June 6 at Headingley. Notably, the cricket player hurt his throwing finger in the first Ashes Test and could not play in the second match at Lord’s. In his place, Joe Root was in charge of the spin department, but England missed a real spinner as Australia dominated with the bat.
Jeetan Patel said that Moeen is bowling well in the nets and should do well in the next match. He added that his fingers look good and that the next few days will help him make a strong comeback.
“I’m hoping that in the next couple of days, he’ll be able to rest it and be ready to go when he gets to Headingley. At the end of the test, it was pretty gross, but we’ve done what we can to clean it up. ESPNcricinfo reported that Patel said, “It looks really good and has healed really, really well.”
“Mo hasn’t bowled 30 overs in a day in a while, and that was always going to be a risk of bringing him in. But we both knew that, and he said yes anyway, so we still asked him. He bowls four overs per game, so he’s probably not used to it, and he hasn’t bowled with the Dukes in two years,” Patel said.
Notably, English captain Ben Stokes has said that the team really wanted Moeen to be able to play in the second Test, but he didn’t get better in time. In the first Test, he bowled 47 overs over two innings at Edbaston. During that time, he got three wickets and 204 runs.
