Jay Shah offers Indian reporters in hurricane-ravaged Barbados a flight home with Team India
Indian media workers who are trapped in Barbados have received support from BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who has offered them a special chartered flight from Barbados to Delhi to return home with the Indian squad. Because of the possibility of Hurricane Beryl, Barbados has been under heightened alert since June 30.

The Indian squad defeated South Africa by seven runs on June 29 in Barbados to win the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The Grantley Adams International Airport was closed because of the hurricane threat, thus the team was unable to travel back to India. A number of media representatives who travelled to the Caribbean from India to cover the major event have also been left stranded in Barbados, in addition to the squad. But according to Vikrant Gupta of India Today, Shah will evacuate them.

“With special appreciation to @JayShah for stepping up to save the stranded Indian media in Barbados. The media delegation, numbering in the 20s, has been offered the opportunity to go to Delhi on a specially chartered flight from Barbados with the Indian squad! The unique flight is scheduled to depart in a few hours and arrive in Delhi on Thursday morning around 4-5,” Gupta posted on his X account.

Special thanks to @JayShah for taking the initiative and ‘rescuing’ stranded Indian media in Barbados. As a gesture, the 20-odd media contingent have been offered to fly out with the Indian team on the special chartered flight from Barbados to Delhi!

Additionally, Gupta disclosed that the delegation is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their arrival in Delhi between 4 and 5 am. To greet the victorious Indian squad, fans are predicted to swarm the airport in large numbers. Following Rohit Sharma’s team’s victory last month to snap an 11-year ICC title drought, Indian cricket fans have never been happier.

As Team India prepares to play Zimbabwe in a five-match Twenty20 International series this month, the supporters are getting ready to cheer them on once more. The tour won’t include the senior players, though, since Shubman Gill will be captaining a rather inexperienced team. The Indian team is about to change in the game’s shortest format as veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirements from Twenty20 Internationals.
