Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest cricket regulating body, has joined the recently established Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Global Advisory Board. The MCC World Cricket Committee, which has been in operation since 2006, is replaced by this board. The advisory board, which is led by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, is made up of prominent people from all around the world who are all committed to the sport’s development.
The MCC World Cricket Committee was instrumental in proposing modifications to the game, including the World Test Championship, day-night Test matches, and the Decision Review System (DRS). The committee’s suggestions greatly influenced modern cricket, despite the fact that it was advisory and without formal authority.
More than 120 of cricket’s top voices came together to discuss the sport’s issues at the first World Cricket Connects event, which the MCC staged at Lord’s in 2024. As a result of this meeting, the Global Advisory Board was established, which has a more formal mandate to influence the global game.

Andrew Strauss, Heather Knight, Graeme Smith, and Sourav Ganguly are among the 13 original members of the Global Advisory Board. The team’s responsibilities include influencing the World Cricket Connects forum’s yearly agenda, fostering insightful conversations, and achieving significant results for the game.

Jay Shah has already promoted cricket internationally as the youngest ICC Chair.
Shah, a former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is a prominent person in cricket.
On June 7–8, 2025, the advisory board will hold its first meeting in conjunction with the second World Cricket Connects summit at Lord’s. This gathering, which comes right before the ICC World Test Championship final, is anticipated to offer a forum for talking about the prospects and difficulties facing cricket.
