At the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York, India defeated Pakistan by a tight margin of six runs on Sunday in a thrilling match for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The Men in Blue successfully defended their lowest-ever total in a T20 World Cup of just 119 runs, leaving the Indian cricket community ecstatic. BCCI secretary Jay Shah spearheaded the celebrations.
The typically quiet Shah was ecstatic to watch the suspenseful match from the stands. India’s modest total against their closest rivals was no doubt a source of great satisfaction for the BCCI Secy.

Following the match, the BCCI secretary praised the team’s heartbreaking performance on X, the previous Twitter platform.
“This is one more win, and it means a little bit more! “Let’s maintain this momentum,” he wrote.
Throughout the thrilling battle between the two titans of cricket, fortunes changed frequently. Having won the toss, the Men in Green chose to go to bat first. India lost their captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli for pennies on the dollar, but still managed to score 119 from their 20 overs thanks to Rishabh Pant’s 42 from 31 balls.
To limit India’s score, pacers Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah combined for eight wickets. As a response, Pakistan got off to a strong start under the leadership of captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who batted cautiously on a difficult surface. The middle order collapsed, though, after the stumper-batter was removed for 31 of 44 balls.

The Men in Blue put their opponents on the back foot with a game-winning inning from Jasprit Bumrah (3/14). India continued their dominant record at the competition with their seventh victory against Pakistan, thanks to Arshdeep Singh’s ability to maintain composure in the last over and protect eighteen runs.
