Jay Shah discusses the IPL Mega Auction, saying that "continuity is important as shuffling, for the growth of the game."

The Impact Player Rule and the future of mega auctions are two contentious topics in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently discussed. His disclosure followed a July 31 meeting he had with the owners of IPL franchises, during which time these subjects were covered in great detail.

In the IPL 2023, the Impact Player Rule was implemented, and players, coaches, and fans have all disagreed about it. Although many have criticised the innovation’s implications on the game’s balance, broadcasters are in favour of it. Shah discussed the Impact Player Rule and stated that it has advantages as well as disadvantages.

“During our recent meeting with the franchise owners, we had a lengthy conversation about this. We also had a lengthy conversation with our domestic teams. It has both advantages and disadvantages. The all-rounders are negatively impacted, but on the plus side, it provides an additional Indian player with an opportunity. We also need to consider the broadcasters. The game is significant to me as an administrator. Let us see what kind of response we receive,” he stated, as reported by.

It’s unclear how the regulation would be applied in domestic cricket, especially in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Shah promised to make a decision after taking into account the input from different sources in a week.

“There are a tonne of matches that need to be played. We guarantee that every team plays an equal number of night and morning games. The last time this happened, we talked about how the weather affects the Ranji Trophy games. In the North, we’ll play games after winter, but in the East and West, we’ll play games before winter,” he continued.

Nothing is verified, and we shall all decide together: Jay Shah

Shah disclosed a rift amongst franchise owners over the IPL super auction. According to Shah, changing around the players will help the game develop and encourage a more competitive mindset among the sides.

“Every franchise has shared their opinions with us. A minority viewpoint is just as significant to us as the consensus. The BCCI office-bearers will make the final decision. Good people stated there was no need for the large sale, and bad people sought the large auction. He went on, “Continuity is crucial for the development of the game, much like shuffling.

In addition to discussing other IPL-related issues, like as the possible expansion to 84 games per season and the addition of a sixth club to the Women’s Premier League (WPL), he gave the assurance that the BCCI would give equal weight to minority and majority voices in making the ultimate decision.

He did, however, emphasise that these choices are not final and would be decided upon collaboratively, taking into account various aspects like player workload and accessible windows.

“Nothing has been verified. We shall make a decision as a group. We also need to account for the players’ workload and the window. Although it is stated in the contract, the BCCI has the final say. We’ll add an additional side once I’m sure we can include more female players,” he said.
