Rohit Sharma's response goes viral as Jay Shah declares him the captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

On Wednesday, February 14, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that Rohit Sharma will wear the captain’s hat for India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to start on June 1 and take place in the USA and the West Indies.

Following India’s humiliating loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, there were numerous questions, with many sources suggesting that Hardik Pandya would lead the team in the shortest format. But Rohit, who has been instrumental in the Mumbai Indians’ five IPL championship victories, has earned Shah’s confidence. The management supported him based on his past performance. Shah also made a confident prediction that India, under Rohit’s leadership, will win the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“I want to assure you that, with Rohit Sharma leading the team, we will win the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados,” Shah declared at a Rajkot event.

The moment Shah made his declaration, the players surrounding Rohit, began applauding and clapping, and Rohit, who was present, couldn’t contain his smile. Since the video of the same thing went viral on social media, he too replied with cheers and a big smile.

Jay Shah stated, “We will talk about it soon,,” with reference to Virat Kohli’s T20I future.

When Virat Kohli’s T20I cricket career was verified, Shah was questioned about Rohit’s declaration. But the secretary of the BCCI held the cards close to his chest. Shah said, “We will discuss it soon.”

The great batsman chose to skip the current England series, citing private matters. It’s presently unclear when he will return, and if the 35-year-old performs poorly in the next Indian Premier League, he may not be selected for the Twenty20 international team.

There will be plenty more answers because the performance of some of the key players in the first half of the IPL is probably going to determine India’s team for the world championship.
