The forthcoming Duleep Trophy, which is scheduled to start on September 5, will not feature senior Indian cricket players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin. The BCCI reportedly asked the veterans to participate in the domestic tournament in order to prepare them for the upcoming home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. However, as of this writing, the seniors will be rested because India will play 10 Test matches in five months.
There will be more Indian cricket players participating in the competition, including KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mohammed Shami, who is presently with the NCA, will also participate in at least one game prior to being called up to the national team for the Bangladesh series. Before then, he was hopeful about being ready for a match, and the selectors will probably give him one shot before his international return.
This season, there have been notable changes made to the Duleep Trophy format. Six teams—North, South, East, West, Central, and North-East—used to compete in the competition previously, but they have chosen to alter it on the advice of NCA head coach VVS Laxman and former India head coach Rahul Dravid.
The purpose of the change, according to, was to track a larger group of participants. The regulatory body is open to monitoring some cricket players ahead of the Test season, especially those who haven’t played a lot of red-ball cricket. While KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer may also be put to the test, the attention will be on guys like Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Mayank Yadav. Ishan Kishan is anticipated to appear as well.

To finalise the squad and choose team leaders, the BCCI selectors will convene later this month. The competition, which takes place till September 22, will include four teams. The round-robin event will see each team face the other three teams, with the team with the most points being crowned the winner.
