Champions Trophy 2025: Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav behind India's team announcement delay

Kuldeep Yadav was sidelined in October of last year owing to a groin injury, particularly in the case of Bumrah, who has not yet been informed of the precise nature and timeframe for achieving full health.

With the Champions Trophy 2025, another massive cricket championship, slated to take place in 2025, the new year promises more excitement and exhilarating cricket action. In light of this, five teams have revealed their rosters for the main event, which is scheduled for February. Another Indian superpower has yet to make a declaration about the lineup, despite Australia being the most recent team to reveal a more or less confirmed squad.

Notably, the Indian board, also known as the BCCI, has postponed the squad naming process even though the Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19. In the most recent development, it has been disclosed that the inability to name the team by the January 12 deadline was caused by the injury worries of two important players. For those who are unaware, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, two of the team’s best players, have recently been dealing with injuries.

He was operated on in Germany after the injury was sustained. According to Dainik Jagran, Bumrah recently sought advice and consultation from his doctor in New Zealand since he also experienced a setback in the form of back spasms.

Because of these doubts, the BCCI decided to delay the squad announcement. It’s interesting to note that despite these rumours, an ICC source verified that by Monday night, all of the teams—including India—had already sent their first teams.

A source close to the ICC told the Hindustan Times that “all cricket boards had to send their preliminary teams by midnight of January 12.”

Kuldeep Yadav, Shami, and injured Jasprit Bumrah were included in India’s CT 2025 team.

According to the Indian Express, pacer Jasprit Bumrah would not be able to lead the Indian pace attack at the start of the Champions Trophy due to the injury status of three important Indian players: Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, and Bumrah. According to reports, Bumrah’s back swelled and he was instructed to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He is now predicted to join the Indian team following the ICC mega 50-over event’s group round matches.

Kuldeep, the leg spinner, has not been playing since his most recent home match against New Zealand. By the end of January, though, he’s probably going to settle into the groove. India will play England in a home ODI series beginning on February 6 before to the Champions Trophy.

Kuldeep is therefore anticipated to return with this season. Last but not least, Shami eventually made it to the ODI squad announced for the series against England after playing a few domestic games to demonstrate his fitness despite some knee concerns. Overall, the BCCI has not yet released any formal statements about the elite players’ injury status.
