Jasprit Bumrah has just shown the world what it takes: Ravi Shastri

When it came to making crucial plays during the T20 World Cup 2024, Jasprit Bumrah was at the top of his game. He bowled a brilliant over that included the wicket of Marco Jansen during the final over, when India was defending at nearly a run-a-ball. The right-arm bowler received high accolades from former India coach Ravi Shastri, who compared him to Wasim Akram in the great pacer’s heyday.

In the group stage match, Jasprit Bumrah was as impressive against Pakistan, where the bowler managed to go past the country’s batting lineup while only conceding 119 runs.

When Pakistan needed to chase the target below in order to run a ball, he removed the well-positioned Mohammad Rizwan. Shastri also praised the Indian pacer for his efforts in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, where he produced five overs that proved to be decisive in the match.

“You know, it’s not often in your career when you have a ball in your hand and you say, ‘do this and the ball does that.'” But Bumrah just demonstrated to the world what it takes. I believe that the India-Pakistan encounter happened because India was forced to compete there and learn what the ideal lineup would be to advance in the competition. That and the last five overs of the (T20 World Cup) final, of course,” Shastri stated, according to an NDTV Sports quote.

“One was, I would say, Jasprit (Bumrah) acquiring Muhammad Rizwan.” Very important, since that might have thrown off the game’s equilibrium. Furthermore, it occurred on the opening ball of a fresh spell, he continued.

A select few players, including Bumrah, have been rested ahead of the white-ball visit to Sri Lanka. Also excluded from the ODI squad was Ravindra Jadeja, who declared his retirement from Twenty20 international cricket. Furthermore, it was unexpected that Hardik Pandya was left off of the ODI team because the selectors had confidence in Shivam Dube.
