Jasprit Bumrah would have ripped on Bradman’s peak in matter of balls: Adam Gilchrist

"It would have been much further south of 99.94 (Bradman’s batting average) that he sits at," stated Gilchrist.

Jasprit Bumrah would have ripped on Bradman's peak in matter of balls: Adam Gilchrist

Recently, Jasprit Bumrah was selected the December 2024 ICC Player of the Month. In June 2024, he had also received the same honour for the month. In the just finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, the pacer was in blistering form against Australia. He was rightfully named Player of the Series after bowling in nine innings over five Test matches, taking 32 wickets at an average of 13.06.

With an incredible average of 19.4, the right-arm bowler has already claimed 205 wickets in 45 Test matches. He took 71 wickets at an incredible average of 14.93 in 2024. Former cricket player Adam Gilchrist has heaped praise on the pacer, saying that it might have torn up Australian star Don Bradman and harmed his record average of 99.94 in Test matches.

“I’m not giving him a rating; there isn’t a number that fits his status in international sports. In a heartbeat, he would have torn Bradman’s peak off. Bradman’s batting average of 99 would have been far further south than where he currently stands. Gilchrist stated on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, “You can’t have a reward that is high enough for him.”

“Compared to everyone else, Jasprit Bumrah is playing on a different planet, a different ball game,” he continued.

Gilchrist was not the only former cricket player to commend the Ahmedabad-born player after he reached the 200-wicket milestone in red-ball internationals. They have compared the 31-year-old to former West Indies greats who have caused mayhem while holding leather in their hands because he accomplished this at an average of less than 20. Despite his best efforts, India was eliminated from the World Test Championship 2025 finals for the first time and lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by a score of 1-3.
