India vs Bangladesh 1st Test, 2 Day Stat Review: Jasprit Bumrah reaches 400 wickets

At Chennai’s famed MA Chidambaram Stadium, India maintained its lead over Bangladesh in the opening Test of the series. Day 2 ends with India leading Bangladesh by 308 runs after two innings.

Taskin Ahmed removed both overnight batsmen Ravindra Jadeja (86 off124) and Ravichandran Ashwin (113 off133) earlier in the morning, igniting a lower-order collapse. As a result, as Hasan Mahmud finished his fifer, India’s morning lasted for just 37 runs in 11.2 overs. India played 376. However, the host team’s bowlers never allowed Bangladesh to take the lead as they easily dismissed them for just 149 runs.

The main wrecker was pacer Jasprit Bumrah (4/50), while Mohammed Siraj (2/30), Akash Deep (2/19).

and Ravindra Jadeja (2 for 19), who all took two wickets apiece, also made significant contributions. No batter from Bangladesh put up much of a fight after Akash Deep grabbed his two wickets in successive deliveries; at one stage, they were reduced to 92/7.

India played with difficulty with the bat and decided not to enforce the follow-on. As India were 81/3 at stumps with a large lead of 308, no Indian batsman really got going aside from Shubman Gill (33 off 64 innings).

8.8 – Rohit Sharma’s batting average against Bangladesh in Tests. His 5 today further brought his already single-digit average down.

5 – Virat Kohli became the 5th player, and the 2nd Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to amass 12,000 runs in his home country in international cricket.
