'I don’t need to go and abuse the batsman'- Jasprit Bumrah on how he shows his rage

In international cricket, two of the greatest rivals compete fiercely for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In addition, some of the world’s top players have engaged in on-field altercations during the 2024–25 season.

Sam Konstas and India’s top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, argued in the last minutes of Day 1 of the Sydney Test, which served as another illustration of this. The Indian captain was provoked by the 19-year-old opener from the non-striker’s end, as the normally composed bowler became agitated by the situation and lost his composure. When Bumrah removed Khawaja two balls later, he was also spotted rejoicing in Konstas’ face. Bumrah recently talked candidly about how he displays aggression as a fast bowler.

Since I grew up watching bowlers on TV yelling, screaming, and facing off against each other, I don’t need to go and harass the batsmen. I’m aggressive. Bumrah told Forbes India, “I tried playing club cricket, but it didn’t work out for me because I got too aggressive.”

“I deliberately worked on it after realising that I go overboard in order to control that.” People don’t know what’s going on in my thoughts while I’m nice and comfortable, therefore I have a mental edge. That keeps me composed and helps me make wiser choices,” he continued.

On sledging, Jasprit Bumrah

During the interview, Bumrah was also asked if he had ever sledged someone during a game. He responded firmly that it does happen during a game, but he still refrains from using foul language. He also mentioned that while it is easy for him to start a fight on the field, he does not do it intentionally.

I won’t lie, of course; it does happen. However, since that is how I began playing, I don’t initiate it (sledge), but I also don’t give up when it comes my way. “I want to be in my zone or my moment, so I don’t do it consciously, but it is very easy for me to start that battle,” Bumrah continued.
