India’s bowling star Jasprit Bumrah had a funny moment at Lord’s post-day news conference. After a five-wicket haul and a spot on Lord’s honours board, Bumrah had a clever response when a phone rang on the table.
The pacer was answering reporters’ questions when the incident occurred. After answering one question, a phone rang and Bumrah picked it up and put it away. At one point, he said, “A wife calls. Not picking it up, I’ll leave it.”

But in the first innings of the third Test at Lord’s, he bowled England out for 387 with a clinical 5/74, earning him a place on the Lord’s honours board and ranking him as the 14th Indian on the list. In order to control his workload, Bumrah took a break during the second Test at Edgbaston, but he came back stronger than ever. He quickly dismissed three of England’s top hitters on the morning of the second day: Chris Woakes, Joe Root, and captain Ben Stokes.
He broke Kapil Dev’s record of 12 five-wicket hauls in overseas Test cricket with this five-wicket haul, which was his 15th in Test cricket and his 13th abroad. Bumrah was brilliant, but England’s lower order rallied well. The home team reached 387 thanks to half-centuries from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, who each contributed 116 runs for the last three wickets.
There will be criticism till I put this jersey on: Bumrah
As Karun Nair and Shubman Gill walked back after Jofra Archer undid Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s batting started off poorly. On Day 2, India was 145/3 at stumps, 242 runs behind, with Rishabh Pant at 19 and KL Rahul undefeated at 53. Bumrah discussed the demands of professional sports and the ongoing criticism that athletes must deal with during the press conference.
“There will be criticism till I put this jersey on. That is a natural element of playing professional sports. Every single day, your performance will be evaluated.
Even after playing 200 Test matches, Sachin Sir was still evaluated, according to Jasprit Bumrah.
Jasprit Bumrah also recalled his prior Lord’s visit in 2021, when he played a significant role with the bat in a well-known lower-order combination with Mohammed Shami, while having a lacklustre performance with the ball.
“I don’t consider any of that. For me, the most memorable test match was the most recent one in England. Naturally, I shall never forget the moments when Shami Bhai and I used the bat to win the match. Attending the Honours Board is a wonderful idea. I may let my son know that my name is on the Honours Board when he gets older. Additionally, it can be found in numerous other locations.
However, I can still recall the memories. I barely took three or four wickets in that game. But because we overcame a deficit to win the game and we had them all out in 60 overs, that memory holds a special place in my heart. Thus, memories hold great significance for me,” he continued.
