‘I felt I can get him out six or seven times in the first two’- Jasprit Bumrah in battle with Sam Konstas

In the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s Boxing Day Test, debutant Sam Konstas made a name for himself by slapping Jasprit Bumrah all over the pitch. He blasted 14 and 18 runs in two overs against Bumrah, respectively, using ramps and reverse scoops against the top Indian pacer. In the first innings, Australia scored 474 runs thanks to the aggressive batting of the 19-year-old, who scored 60 runs.

Bumrah talked on the difficulty of bowling to Konstas, saying that it was something new for him and that he felt well-in control. The 31-year-old said he had played enough Twenty20 cricket matches when the batsman had performed well against him, but he believed he had controlled the first few overs against Konstas. Bumrah also said he might have taken the opener’s wicket six or seven times in the same period of time.

I have a tonne of experience with it. I have almost 12 years of T20 cricket playing experience. He was also an interesting batsman, and I always felt like I was part of the action. I never felt that a wicket was far away. I initially believed I could get him out six or seven times in the first two overs, but cricket is like that. It looks good and pays off sometimes, but other times it doesn’t, and then you all will be attacking the same individual. That’s the nature of cricket, and I enjoy a variety of challenges and am constantly looking forward to a new one,” Bumrah stated in an interview with 7 Cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah celebrates Steve Smith’s 100 years at MCG.

Against India in the current five-match series, senior Australian batsman Steve Smith scored consecutive hundreds. With 140 runs at the MCG, the great batsman put India in a vulnerable position. Ahead of Day 3, Bumrah praised him and pointed out that bowling to Smith is always difficult because to his unconventional batting style.

He has always presented difficulties. Due to the fact that he is not a typical batter, he is somewhat unconventional, much like me when I bowl. Sometimes he shuffles, and other times he doesn’t. Thus, it creates a new problem. He scores from different parts of the field, therefore you need to be highly reliable. Always, it has been difficult. He and I have fought well in every format. It’s clear that he’s challenging to bowl to in this setup. He had an excellent innings, Bumrah remarked.
