Stats: Jasprit Bumrah becomes 3rd Indian pacer to take 50 or more Test wickets in a calendar year

The Adelaide Oval in Adelaide is the venue for the second Test match between Australia and India. India won the toss and chose to bat first in the pink-ball Test, however the side did not fare well as they were bowled out for a mere 180 runs. The Indian pacers were expected to go all out, but the Australian hitters were strong enough to hit some and defend others.

On Day 1, Usman Khawaja was the only wicket they lost. Australia’s opener left with 13 runs off 35 balls after falling to India’s top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. With this wicket, Bumrah achieved yet another significant milestone and became one of the few Indian pacers to take 50 or more Test wickets in a single year.

Jasprit Bumrah made history on his 31st birthday by being the third fast bowler from India to take 50 wickets in a single year.

This achievement placed him alongside Zaheer Khan and Kapil Dev. In his 11 games thus far, he has taken 50 wickets at an average of 15.20, with a strike rate of 30.8 and an economy rate of 2.96.

During his 17 Test matches in 1979, Kapil took 74 wickets at an average of 22.95, with a strike rate of 48.01 and an economy rate of 2.86. Four years later, he set a new record and took first position. He took 75 wickets in 18 Test matches in 1983 at an average of 23.18, with a strike rate of 46.25 and an economy rate of 3.

However, in 2002, Zaheer Khan, the second pacer on the list, participated in 15 Test matches. With a strike rate of 56.37 and an economy rate of 3.08, he took 51 wickets at an average of 29.
