Jason Gillespie to be Pakistan's coach for white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten's resignation

In light of Gary Kirsten‘s departure as head coach, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that red-ball coach Jason Gillespie will lead the national team during their forthcoming white-ball tour to Australia.

Following his appointment in April 2024, Kirsten’s time with the Men in Green lasted only six months. Pakistan’s performance at the T20 World Cup in the USA during his tenure was poor; the team lost to both India and the USA in the opening round and was forced to withdraw early.

In addition to a coaching change, the team has seen a leadership development as Mohammad Rizwan was previously named the new white-ball captain, succeeding Babar Azam, who resigned after recent subpar play.

There are three ODI and three T20I matches on the Australia tour.

These modifications were brought about by recent PCB administrative rulings. Following the removal of coaches’ selection authority, a gap has formed between the board and the coaching staff; during the most recent England Test series, Gillespie had already expressed his amazement at these developments.

The white-ball team will be led by Jason Gillespie, who was previously a member of the coaching staff.

Three ODIs and three T20Is will be played at important Australian venues during the next trip of Australia. The first ODI of the series will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 4; subsequent games will take place in Adelaide on November 8 and Perth on November 10. After that, the T20I series will travel to Sydney (November 16), Brisbane (November 14), and Hobart (November 18).

Men in Green will play in a 50-over format for the first time since their World Cup campaign in India a year ago during this tour, which is an important prelude to the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan has a busy calendar after the Australian visit,
