The team for the Twenty20 International series against England and Ireland has been revealed by the West Indies Cricket Board. Jason Holder and Andre Russell, two senior players who haven’t played since 2024, will rejoin the team.
Jason Holder had been sidelined since February 2024, while Russell was sidelined for the November 2024 series against England due to an ankle ailment.
WI suffered greatly without the seniors, including losing to Bangladesh handily at home, which resulted in Rovman Powell being removed from leadership. The two-time world champions have appointed Shai Hope as their new T20I captain. Nicholas Pooran, meantime, has decided to withdraw from the series in order to relax after an intense IPL 2025 schedule.
The Caribbean giants’ current European trip began with an ODI series against Ireland and will conclude with a T20I series against the same team. The Men in Maroon will begin their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026 by playing a three-match T20I series after the conclusion of the ODI series against England.
Senior athletes and coaches will go home early.
The team’s senior players won’t be playing in the series against Ireland. For the series against Ireland, Keacy Carty and Jyd Goolie have been called up to take the place of Roston Chase and Brandon King. Following the series against England, certain members of the coaching staff will also take a break.
Before the first Test match against Australia, head coach Darren Sammy, assistant coaches Floyd Reifer and Ravi Rampaul will fly back home early to begin the training camp in Barbados from June 13 to 21. In Sammy’s absence, Rayon Griffith will coach the West Indian team against Ireland.
