After 16 years with Western Australia, left-arm speedster Jason Behrendorff has announced his retirement from state cricket. In the franchise leagues, where he has had great success, he will keep playing T20 cricket.
The 34-year-old, who has participated in 17 Twenty20 Internationals, most recently against the West Indies in Perth 12 months ago, is still eligible to be selected for the Australian squad. In 2019–22, he also participated in 12 ODIs.
In ODIs and T20Is, Jason Behrendorff has taken 16 and 18 wickets, respectively.
After finishing as the BBL’s top wicket-taker at the end of the previous season, he signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Renegades and left the Perth Scorchers to retire. Jason Behrendorff played in the BBL for 13 years, winning four titles with the Scorchers. In the popular league, he participated in 106 games.
“It marks the conclusion of an extremely thrilling chapter. It has been a lot of fun. Playing state cricket and later playing for Australia has allowed me to fulfill a boyhood dream. After declaring his retirement on Wednesday, February 26, Jason Behrendorff remarked, “The WACA Ground has been my home for so long now.”
Jason Behrendorff was a member of the Pretoria Capitals during the just finished third season of the SA20, where he claimed two wickets in three games.
It was a major factor in my retirement choice. I want to be at home and be there for my children, even though I know I’m away due to international obligations, franchise leagues, and other things. Specifically, school pickup and drop-off,” Behrendorff stated.
To be able to spend more time with my wife, Juvelle, and do the things I don’t always get to do … to be able to spend more time with my family,” he continued.
In 31 first-class games, Behrendorff took 126 wickets at an average of 23.85. He took 97 wickets in 70 games on the List A circuit.
