Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, and Jamie Overton, all players for England, will miss the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 games for their respective teams. Curran and Overton played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season, while Archer was a member of the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Notably, neither CSK nor RR will be competing in the playoffs.
To fulfil their IPL obligations, Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell, among others, will arrive in the nation on Wednesday, May 14. Jos Buttler and Will Jacks are playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively, while Livingstone and Bethell are representing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In the IPL 2025 points standings, all three teams are ranked in the top four.
On Wednesday evening, Buttler is anticipated to land in India. Jacks, meanwhile, was present throughout MI’s Thursday practice. The return of Phil Salt, who has been playing brilliantly for RCB in the IPL 2025, is still unclear, though.
According to a high-ranking official with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), some England players are coming back to finish the league matches, while others have decided not to. Their individual teams have also verified this development.
Cricbuzz claims that CSK has stated that they will not look for Curran and Jamie Overton replacements. Archer is recovering from an injury, according to RR, and the management is putting his fitness first.
“Since we are eliminated from consideration for the playoffs, it is not a question of unwillingness. We are putting his fitness first because he is fostering an injury,” an RR official stated.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Moeen Ali is still unsure if he will return. Munir Ali, his father, told the website in question that he will be able to provide further details within the next day.
The IPL returns to Bengaluru on May 17 following a one-week hiatus. The summit match is scheduled on June 3, and the knockout stages begin on May 29.
