After David Warner endorsed Marcus Harris as a potential replacement in Test cricket, former Australian selector Jamie Cox did not agree with Warner’s selection. Following the third and final Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the storied Sydney Cricket Ground, the outstanding Australian opener is scheduled to end his Test career. Among the front-runners for Warner’s job are Matt Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft, and Marcus Harris.
From 2006 to 2011, Jamie Cox served on Australia’s Test Selection Panel.
He publicly stated his disapproval of Warner’s nomination of Harris. Marcus Harris, who debuted in Test cricket against India in 2018, has played in 14 matches, amassing over 600 runs and three half-centuries.

Mitchell Johnson said that Warner did not deserve a farewell series and that the selectors had always supported him despite his bad form leading up to the first Test in Perth. Jamie Cox took issue with Johnson for making such a statement. Warner struck his 26th Test century and finished his innings with an innings-high 164. Warner was particularly good throughout the first test.
David Warner commented on Marcus Harris’ choice as follows:
“Well, this one is difficult. Clearly, the selectors have the final say. However, from where I sit, it seems like Harris has been the one who has been working extremely hard and quietly for a while. Harry has always been the one who was next in line. He has toured, scored a hundred runs the other day, and was also the one who was left out of a few games.
I have no doubt that he will perform like he does if the selectors demonstrate their confidence in him. He and I aren’t all that different. “He plays his shots and goes for it if he sees it in his areas, and I think he would fit in well,” Warner was reported to have said.
