The third Test match between India and England is currently taking place in Rajkot, and throughout it, seasoned English pacer James Anderson made cricket history once more. James Anderson has now surpassed the renowned Indian wrist spinner Anil Kumble to become the record holder for the most runs conceded by a bowler in Test cricket.
After retiring in 2008, Anil Kumble occupied the top spot on this chart with 18,355 runs conceded in his 132 Test career. But James Anderson, regarded as one of the all-time great fast bowlers, has now surpassed Kumble’s total. While playing 185* Tests, Anderson has conceded 18,371 runs so far in his incredible career.
“I feel fortunate,” James Anderson said.
After Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, he is the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history with 696 wickets. With the ball, Anderson is extremely skilled, and his consistency throughout the years has been astounding.
The 41-year-old stated in a recent interview that he wanted to leave the game on a positive note and that he intended to retire whenever he felt ready. Thinking back on his career, Anderson said,
“I hope to end my life on a positive note. “Can you just do one,” is what people are thinking, and I don’t want to drag it out. Last year, Morgs [Morgan] simply knew it was time to end the day when he woke up. “I hope that turns out to be the case,” Anderson stated to the Telegraph.
As a bowler, decisions are typically taken out of your hands due to injury or selection, so I feel fortunate to be in this situation. You’ll just have to wait and see when I go out on my terms, which will be wonderful,” he continued.
The magical 700 Test wicket mark is just four wickets away for Anderson. In the second Test match in Hyderabad, the experienced bowler claimed five wickets despite not being named in the starting XI for the first Test. In the first innings of the Rajkot Test, the pacer was only able to claim one wicket.
