James Anderson: "I Feel Like I Could Play for 10 More Years"

James Anderson, the renowned English bowler, is one of several who has accomplished this achievement. All international bowlers in Test cricket aspire to be long-lasting and consistently excellent, but very few actually achieve this, let alone fulfill their dreams.

He has unquestionably dazzled everyone throughout the years with his brilliant red-ball skills, especially after he retired from international white-ball cricket in 2015. In addition to his on-field accomplishments, his career represents persistent brilliance, demonstrating that age is just a number in the pursuit of athletic greatness with the correct attitude and work ethic.

With a career spanning more than 20 years and 187 Test matches played, James Anderson was on course to reach the 200-game mark. However, after reaching a consensus with the England Cricket Team’s top brass, he will play one more game before hanging up his boots.

The soon-to-be 42-year-old said in an interview with the Tailenders podcast that, despite the fact that it might sound ludicrous and wholly fantastical, his head and gut still tell him he might play for ten more years. He also said that, on average, 10% of the time he wakes up and wishes he hadn’t given up on his cricket career.

“I feel like I could play for ten years in my head. I know that’s not realistic, of course. Every now and again when I wake up, I regret retiring. I’m 90% happy with it most of the time,” Anderson said on the Tailenders podcast.

I’m pleased with my progress thus far: James Anderson

The seasoned player, who recently achieved the incredible feat of becoming a member of the 700-wicket club in Test cricket during the Indian Test series earlier this year, stated that although he sometimes finds it difficult to call it quits, he is also grateful for how far he has come in his career, especially when you consider the small percentage of players who are able to retire after the age of 40, let alone fast bowlers like him.

Few athletes have the opportunity to retire after the age of 40. I’m glad I’ve come this far,” James Anderson continued.
