With James Anderson's departure, Zak Crawley offers team perspective, saying, "It's certainly a changing of the guard."

At Lord’s, England defeated the West Indies in the opening Test by an innings and 114 runs. James Anderson said goodbye to the game in the same location where he made his debut in 2003, with the Test being his final appearance for his country. With the ball, Gus Atkinson wowed, taking seven wickets in the first innings and five in the second. England hitter Zak Crawley provided insight into the future of the team and life without the legendary player.

At Lord’s, Crawley hit a magnificent half-century in the opening session against the West Indies. During the first Test match, he was one of five English batsmen to reach half a century. He emphasised that the visitors are a serious threat and that the dressing room is not taking them lightly. He expressed satisfaction with his performance at Lord’s and promised to repeat it.

Nobody is taken for granted by us. We are aware that they have some highly talented players who can easily win the game for them. We must remain focused and execute as we did at Lord’s. We want to support the incredibly good performance that we gave,” Crawley stated, as cited by The Standard.

“With Anderson’s departure, there has undoubtedly been a changing of the guard. It’s great to see some new talent joining.” Pottsy [Matthew Potts], Dillon [Pennington], Gus [Atkinson], and a bunch of other players are really good bowlers that I find difficult to play against. Like Gus did [at Lord’s], they’re all going to go well and have the chance,” he continued.

James Anderson is replaced in the playing XI by Mark Wood.

The second Test between England and the West Indies will begin on July 18 at Trent Bridge in Nottinghamshire. Mark Wood has been called up by the English, taking Anderson’s spot in the starting lineup. They have kept the same starting eleven for the second Test save from this modification. Two days prior to the action day, they published their playing XI in keeping with their recently established custom.
