James Anderson and Stuart Broad became the second bowling duo to collectively record 1000 wickets.

The second bowling duo in Test cricket to record 1000 wickets combined was James Anderson and Stuart Broad. The milestone was reached by the English team on February 17 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui during the second day of the current first Test match versus New Zealand. After Broad fired nightwatchman Neil Wagner during the first session of the second day, they accomplished the extraordinary achievement.

James Anderson nearly reached the milestone on Day 1 of the first Test, which the pacers entered with a combined total of 997 victories. By the conclusion of the first day of play, he dismissed Henry Nicholls and Kane Williamson to reach 999 wickets. Conversely, Broad removed Wagner, who had been apprehended by Ollie Robinson. In the pair’s 133rd game of the longest format, their combined total reached four digits.

Glenn McGrath and the late Shane Warne, two Australian greats, are at the top of the list of cricketers who have taken 1,000 wickets. In 104 Test outings, the Australian pair bowled together and shared 1001 wickets. One of the top five wicket-takers in Test cricket is the Anderson-Broad combination. They have the highest rate of wicket-taking pacers in the game’s longest format.

Whereas Broad has 567 from 160 games, Anderson has 677 from 178 Tests. The third bowler with the most Test wickets is the 40-year-old Anderson, who made his Test debut in 2003. Broad, 36, is currently ranked fifth, 619 wickets behind Anil Kumble, a legendary cricketer from India, who is ranked fourth. The legendary Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka tops the list with 800 dismissals, followed by Warne with 708 dismissals.

On Day 1 of the series opener, New Zealand elected to bowl first after winning the toss. England scored 325 runs in just 58.2 overs while losing 9 wickets. The top scorers for England were Harry Brook (89) and Ben Duckett (84). After that, the guests entered the fray to bowl, picking up three early wickets on the opening day.
