There was more going on in Bangladesh and Nepal’s Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 encounter than just exciting cricketing activity. Jaker Ali of Bangladesh created controversy when he seemed to check with the dressing room before assisting Tanzim Hasan Sakib in obtaining a very late review after the latter was declared out of the match due to LBW against Sandeep Lamichhane.
In Bangladesh’s innings, the contentious event happened in the 14th over. After Lamichhane hit Tanzim with his pads, the umpire lifted his finger to declare the hitter out. Non-striker Jaker Ali was seen on CCTV seemingly turning to face the Bangladeshi team’s locker room as he started to walk away.
Then, just as the DRS timer was going to go off, he motioned to his companion to evaluate the choice. The on-field call was reversed by replays that revealed the ball was missing the leg stump. The 21-year-old Tanzim was dismissed by Lamichhane’s googly on the very next delivery, so his reprieve was short-lived.

Umpires may refuse a review if they feel players got advice from sources other than the field, especially in the locker room, as stated in Article 3.2.3 of the tournament’s playing rules.
In addition, players are not allowed to ask for outside help to make a review decision; violators may face sanctions, such as suspensions, as stated in Article 2.15 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Although the review was allowed during the game and the umpires did not complain, if Ali and Tanzim are found guilty of the alleged infraction, they may be charged with a Level 3 offence.
Miser periods are beneficial to Bangladesh.
At Kingstown’s Arnos Vale Ground on Monday, the Bangla Tigers battled to a 21-run victory over Nepal, securing their Super Eights spot. After Nepal was down 26/5 in their chase for victory, they had a chance thanks to a 52-run partnership between Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee.

But Three wickets from Mustafizur Rahman and Four wickets from Tanzim turned the tide of the match in Bangladesh’s favour. Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets to secure the victory with 22 needed from the last over.
Making the most of the Super Eight stage and moving on to the tournament’s final round will now be the team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Group 1 opponents Australia, the winners of the 2021 edition, will be their first test on June 21, followed by Afghanistan and India.
