Jake Fraser-McGurk will not play in the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 games. On Thursday, May 8, the Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab Kings (PBKS) match was called off halfway through the first innings, and the opening batsman from Australia was one of the players evacuated from Dharamsala. The match was called off when Pakistan launched multiple drones at several Indian cities bordering the north and northwest, causing a power outage in the hill town due to air raid warnings given in adjacent locations.
Fraser-Jake Fraser coach, Shanon Young, stated that the right-handed hitter, who was one of the younger players on either side, is still in shock following last week’s extraordinary turn of events.
Following a week-long IPL suspension, the 23-year-old and several of his countrymen returned to Australia. He has now notified the Capitals’ management that he would not be able to play in the remaining IPL games.
“To be honest, I don’t know. He has yet to make a decision. He’s still not sure, according to our conversation this morning. More than most, he was shaken. He is the youngest of the tourists, so it’s not surprising that he was apprehensive the day before the game, after we were evacuated, and on the return trip to Delhi,” Young told The Times of India.
He wasn’t feeling well, and I’m grateful that I was there to support him during that time. It was challenging enough for a fifty-year-old man with a lot of travel experience, let alone a child,” he continued.
The Capitals signed Mustafizur Rahman, a seasoned Bangladeshi pacer, on Wednesday, May 14, to replace Fraser-McGurk for the remainder of the season. The matchup between DC and PBKS has been moved to May 24 and will now take place at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With 13 points from 11 games, DC is ranked fifth in the standings. In the meantime, PBKS is in third place with 15 points after 11 games.
