‘Not in this position to feel like I’ve earned that yet’ – Jake Fraser-McGurk on not being selected for the T20 World Cup team

"They probably had a good idea of what [the squad] was a month and a half ago, trying to build that and get the connection in the team," Fraser-McGurk said.

'Not in this position to feel like I've earned that yet' - Jake Fraser-McGurk on not being selected for the T20 World Cup team

In the current IPL (Indian Premier League) season, young Australian hitter Jake Fraser-McGurk has set the stage on fire. He has been brilliant, hitting two 15-ball half-centuries, including 84 off 27 balls against the Mumbai Indians. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk was left out of Australia’s T20 World Cup roster despite his outstanding batting performances.

But the child just came forward to say that he doesn’t mind missing out because he doesn’t think he’s earned it yet. Fraser-McGurk was one of two conspicuous absences from Australia’s 15-man competition roster, along with Steve Smith.

During a recent interview, McGurk expressed gratitude to his Australian teammates, discussed the excellent communication with the board, and shared his perspective on the situation.

There are two ways to look at it: either way, the communication was excellent. One way to approach it is by saying, “This is how I’ve proven my case,” but you can also say, “Look, a month and a half ago, I wasn’t even in the picture.” McGurk stated this on the podcast Willow Talk.

Also read: In the IPL 2024, Kuldeep Yadav said of the batter’s onslaught, “A bowler should understand and back his strengths.”

“They were attempting to establish a link among the club and probably had a solid notion of what [the squad] was a month and a half ago. It’s also challenging to blend in. David Warner is our greatest opener ever in all three formats. “You have Travis Head, who has been lighting it up for the last eighteen months and is lighting it up here,” he continued.

I didn’t feel as though I had earned that at this point. Jake Fraser-McGurk

The 22-year-old also discussed how he feels he hasn’t earned a spot in the final 15; therefore, his exclusion from Australia’s World Cup roster doesn’t hurt him all that much. He did admit that it would be beneficial for him to be able to serve as a touring reserve since it would provide him with some much-needed experience.

“It would be nice to have a positive experience there if I could somehow secure a travel reserve [place]. I wasn’t in a situation where I felt like I had earned that, so it didn’t really affect me all that much. “IPL and franchise cricket are very different from World Cup cricket,” he remarked.
