Ravindra Jadeja received INR 14 crore from the transfer transaction, whereas Curran only received INR 2.4 crore. All ten teams confirmed their Indian Premier League 2026 retentions on November 15, but the most notable story was when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) traded out Ravindra and Sam Curran for wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
Manoj Badale, a co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has made the shocking admission that Ravindra approached him about a potential swap of teams prior to the 2026 season. At that point, RR genuinely expressed interest in hiring the all-rounder, but it took a few more weeks for the agreement to be finalised.
About four weeks ago, in the middle of October, Ravindra contacted me to express his excitement about the prospect of returning “home,” as he put it, to the place where he began his IPL career and, more importantly, where his cricketing career and notoriety in India actually got their start. We have had a number of conversations in the last several weeks. It’s been interesting to get to know the elder Ravi Jadeja, considering he was 21 when I last saw him,” Badale said in an official RR video.
But Badale also disclosed that the franchise, which is situated in Jaipur, never considered serving curran as an accompaniment to jadeja.
Since the 2008 champions are still vying for their second championship, RR really always wanted to include both all-rounders in the strategic build-up to the forthcoming season.
To be clear, it wasn’t only a deal for Jadeja. For Jadeja and Sam Curran, it was a swap. That other element must not be overlooked. It was interesting because of the two of them working together to fill three or four positions that we need for the upcoming season, Badale added.
After helping the India Under-19s team win the World Cup earlier that year, Jadeja made his debut for the Royals in 2008, and he has already played for the team for a few seasons. Before joining Kochi Tuskers Kerala for his subsequent participation in the lucrative league, he played for RR for another season. With the exception of the 2016 and 2017 seasons when he played for the Gujarat Lions, Jadeja joined CSK in 2012 and remained with the team until 2025.
