Gautam Gambhir, a former cricket player for India, has been named the new head coach of the Indian side by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Gambhir will succeed Rahul Dravid, whose stint came to an end with the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Following Gambhir’s official declaration, BCCI secretary Jay Shah introduced former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who praised Gambhir for his outstanding cricketing intelligence. The former batter was also designated by him to succeed him as India’s head coach.
In addition, Kallis wished Gambhir well in his role as India’s head coach and expressed the hope that he would elevate the Men in Blue.
“Gautam’s entry into the coaching field is well appreciated. He has an excellent cricketing mind. He enjoys playing the game with aggression and will bring some fire. He’ll definitely add something more, and the boys will pick up a lot of knowledge from him, in my opinion. He will be very valuable to that Indian side and has a lot to say. Not too much against us, but I’m sure he’ll do a terrific job, I wish him all the best,” Kallis said to Star Sports.

In addition, Gautam Gambhir has recently received plaudits from former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn. Steyn praised Gambhir’s aggressiveness on the pitch and expressed his belief that he will continue to support the players in the locker room.
“I think Gautam Gambhir is fantastic. I adore his assertiveness. I like that he’s one of the few Indians I’ve ever played against who has returned the favour. I believe he will bring it into the locker room with players like Virat and a few other older players who may not be as important. “I’m not sure,” Steyn remarked.

“We need individuals who play the game a little bit harder and with a little bit more aggression, not just in India but throughout the world of cricket as well. We all seem to play against one another in the leagues, and we end up getting along well and becoming friends,” Steyn continued.
