The English coloured clothes summer got off to a great start when Jacob Bethell helped England defeat the West Indies in the opening ODI of the series. The lower-order batsman’s 82(53) and 1/18 against the two-time ODI World Cup winners earned him Player of the Match. He discussed how Virat Kohli helped him improve his game in a short of months after the game.
The southpaw, who believes he is a better player now than he was before playing in the league, said his time with RCB in the IPL 2025 was useful. The rising star claimed that Virat was excellent at providing information and that he only needed to ask. Bethell stated that he felt unique and that it was wonderful to be a part of RCB.
“That experience really improved my game, in my opinion. In my opinion, I have improved as a player throughout the two months prior to my trip to India. The information and Virat Kohli’s batting technique were excellent. I only needed to ask, and he was quite good at that. Participating in that competition was unique. In the post-match interview, Bethell stated, “It was great to be a part of it because there is a lot of noise around it.”
As I batted alongside Virat, I sensed the energy: Jacob Bethell
The England batsman went on to say that he liked to play in the middle when he didn’t have any opportunities and stepped up to take Phil Salt’s place for a few games. Virat and Andy Flower were helpful, according to Bethell, who also mentioned that he wanted to keep up the new enthusiasm and intensity he felt when he came out to bat with Kohli.
As soon as I signed that deal, I knew I would be playing in the IPL. I took pleasure in watching the youngsters succeed from a distance. Virat was excellent. Andy Flower was a fantastic coach, and he was delighted to give me a lot of advise. When I batted alongside Virat, I sensed the energy, and I’ll carry that focus into my game,” Bethell continued.
In order to play for England in the ODI series against the West Indies, the Englishman left the RCB team. Prior to this, he scored 67 runs at an average of 33.50 and a strike rate of 171.79 in two games for the Bengaluru-based team. However, Virat has been outstanding, scoring 614 runs at an average of 55.81 and a strike rate of 146.53 in 14 innings, including an incredible eight 50+ scores in the 2025 IPL.
