Ormer Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar of India thinks that Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), will be very motivated to play against his old team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on Saturday, April 26. Despite winning the title with KKR in 2024, Iyer was let go by the team. He even said that, although he deserved it, he didn’t receive any gratitude.
Sunil Gavaskar believes that Iyer will be “fired up” to play against KKR even if he has moved on to another team. Additionally, PBKS is performing admirably this season. They are getting close to the playoffs and have won five of their last eight games. The Punjab-based team has had a very different season since the players have batted with confidence and the team has appeared balanced in the majority of games.
According to Sunil Gavaskar, Iyer will have an opportunity to show himself against his old squad, which would make the game engaging for all spectators.
“He’ll be motivated. And if they hadn’t performed well, one might understand if he had been, you know, I’ve been out of form. However, it will be painful if the captain of a winning team is let go. Without a doubt, that will cause pain. He has since gone to PBKS for a lot more, which is okay. He might have felt somewhat comforted by that, but the problem is that no one likes to be excluded. It’s obvious that I believe he will have something to prove. Or perhaps six points to prove,” Sunil Gavaskar stated on JioStar.
Will KKR be able to make it to the playoffs?
The reigning champs have had a difficult season. The hitters have not performed well under duress, and the squad doesn’t appear to be balanced. This is one of the primary causes of KKR’s three wins in eight games, which puts them in seventh place. But they still have six games left to turn things around, much like RCB did the previous season.
As far as batting lineup setup goes, KKR has some big job ahead of them. Both the middle order hitters and the openers have struggled in crucial circumstances like powerplays. Although the bowlers are performing as expected, they still need to get better and take early wickets to put pressure on the opposition.
