Sai Sudharsan has developed over the past four IPL seasons from a young player to an accomplished veteran, and he was instrumental in the Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2022 victory. In the IPL, the left-hander has already put up some amazing stats, averaging 48.80 and hitting at 141.70.
The left-hander has already had a terrific start in the 2025 IPL, scoring 186 runs in three games at an average of an incredible 62. On April 2 (Wednesday), when chasing 170 against RCB, Sai Sudharsan made a smart move by soaking up the early pressure against a fiery Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to hit 49 off 36 balls.
The Tamil Nadu batter discussed the surface’s difficulty in the post-match press conference, contrasting it with the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s often high-scoring surfaces.
“The wicket was not as simple as it appeared; even the RCB had trouble. It was a challenging time for us, and I thought they bowled really effectively in the powerplay.
After eight or nine overs, the discussion shifted from taking the game deep to making the most of it, according to Sai Sudharsan.
We are not a side that follows a set strategy; instead, we concentrated more on the wickets we had at hand. We take into account the circumstances and the state of affairs and adjust our strategies accordingly,” he continued.
In addition to being a vital component of Gujarat’s victory, the young player’s outstanding domestic cricket performance has persuaded Indian selectors to develop him further. Even for the national squad, the left-hander had a solid start, amassing 127 runs in three ODIs, including double fifties.
“This year is my fourth. With GT, I’ve encountered a lot of rapid bowling in the nets as well as some challenging circumstances. The game time and practice time I received here at GT Nets have been the most significant factors in my development. I encountered several challenging situations. Playing for India “A” and other leagues outside of India has undoubtedly improved my game,” he stated.
But according to Sai Sudharsan, Gujarat would have had difficulty holding the RCB batsmen to 169/8 if it weren’t for Sai Kishore’s obstinate 2/22.
“I believe Sai Kishore bowled the most crucial spell in this match; he was astute enough to use the appropriate pace and angles against Tim David and Liam Livingstone.” He has been bowling well and has been doing well for us this season,” he said of his fellow statemate.
However, the left-hander said that the run chase was made somewhat more challenging by the team maybe giving up an additional 10 to 15 runs in the latter part of the innings.
However, I thought that as a bowling team, we had conceded ten to fifteen runs more than we ought to have. Nevertheless, I believe that 170 was a partial score on this wicket.
